Recess Hotel & Club Savannah is set to open this month as part of the Leading Hotels of the World in the Georgia city’s historic Manger Building. Inspired by the artists, makers, and storytellers who shaped the local creative community, the 221-key lifestyle hotel and clubhouse—the debut property from hospitality and real estate development firm Left Lane—will arrive as a new destination to stay, play, and unwind. It’s the second local property following the opening of Hotel Bardo Savannah in 2024. “Luxury travel is evolving with guests seeking out community and meaningful experiences built around connection,” says Left Lane Development managing partner Jon Kully. “Savannah’s rich cultural heritage, entrepreneurial spirit, and vibrant arts community made it the perfect home to launch Recess, and we’re honored to build on the success we found with Bardo in a city that means so much to us.”
The philosophy of “new old school” steers the design from Atelier Pond inside the 114-year-old Beaux-Arts-style landmark. Original arched windows, decorative cornices, and a tripartite architectural composition remain distinctive focal points across the retro futurist update. Modern finishes will be juxtaposed with analog elements like vintage push-button light switches, antique mirrors, and original mosaic tile floors. Natural wood grains, marble, tile, and unique patinas will further imbue interiors with rich tactility, while a custom mural from local painter Kipper Millsap will evoke a sense of place. Lively Rumpus Rooms will anchor each floor as designated social hubs endowed with lounge seating, custom vending machines, and vintage gaming. Onsite F&B options will include the French brasserie La Flâneur, the retro-chic rooftop bar Kilter, a lobby bar, and a communal eatery dubbed the Servery. The holistic fitness and wellness bathhouse Saltgrass—vibrantly outfitted in blue and white and with handpainted tiles—, members-only social club Club Recess, a rooftop lawn and pool, second-floor conservatory, and a 6,500-square-foot, two-story event hall will round up the onsite amenities. Accommodations will span 136 guestrooms, 23 suites, and 62 bunk rooms.
