Aman Hotels and Resorts has long provided respite to travelers in Japan. Aman Tokyo, Aman Kyoto, and Amanemu in rural Ise-Shima all reflect the brand’s pillars of privacy, tranquility, and intimate service, and come 2030, Aman will leave its imprint on scenic Hokkaido with the debut of Aman Niseko.

Japan’s second largest island, Hokkaido woos outdoor enthusiasts with its national parks and hot springs, and Aman Niseko, situated in a nature reserve on the slopes of Mount Moiwa, is rooted in this idyllic landscape.

Late architect Kerry Hill spearheaded the design of the resort—the mountain’s sole development—with subtle nods to the Ainu, Hokkaido’s indigenous people. 

The 30 suites and 31 freestanding bi-level residences, complete with capacious terraces and rooms for stashing ski gear, will embrace an earthy palette of timber, stone, and glass that organically meshes with the surroundings. 

Outside these retreats, guests can unwind in the main pavilion where a loungey living room, private dining room, library, boutique, and gallery will be conveniently joined by a ski retail area and lockers, as well as a bar, whiskey and cigar lounge, and two restaurants.  

Aman Niseko is anticipated to become Japan’s first full-fledged wellness destination, and the holistic-oriented Aman Spa will certainly come to the rescue after mornings of snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, and river rafting with Finnish saunas, hammams, and treatments integrating Japanese Kampo herbs and Anma and Shiatsu massage techniques. Past the light-filled reception area, a tearoom will magnify views of the countryside, while indoor and outdoor mineral-rich onsen pools celebrate storied Japanese healing rituals.
