Aspen Hospitality, a division of Aspen One, has revealed the design for its forthcoming hotel, the Nell New York, as conceived by Rockwell Group and Pierre & Co. Slated to open this fall, the 134-room hotel will become the sole hotel within Rockefeller Center as well as New York’s only Relais & Chateaux property. Embodying warm, personalized luxury, the design will draw upon the iconic Art Deco architecture, materiality, and art curation of its address. “We approached the Nell New York as a collection of rooms in a gracious Manhattan townhouse rather than a traditional hotel. The experience unfolds gradually, from the discreet residential entrance on 48th Street to the lounges, dining spaces, wine cellar, and spa that look out over the ice rink and the city,” says Rockwell Group partner Shawn Sullivan. “The result feels layered and collected over time, like the quintessential New York residence.”
Public spaces fashioned by Rockwell Group will signal a transition from big city energy into a sequence of relaxed residential spaces defined by ease and sophistication. A limestone façade accented with sconces and backlit windows framed with closed drapery will greet visitors along with a palatial fireplace in the foyer evoking both calm and grandeur. Reception awaits on the seventh floor, where guests will be ensconced in a warm, sumptuous palette and curated art accents across dining and lounge areas. Fluted amber stone, marble, custom lighting, and textural glass portals form a richly layered sense of place in the all-day dining room as well as the private wine lounge and cellar. Energy will shift toward restoration and wellness on the eighth floor, where warm wood and natural stone will wrap the spa and wood details, antique mirrored walls, and bespoke millwork will establish exclusivity and refinement in the gym.
Guestrooms by Pierre & Co. will draw upon the geometry and aspirational elegance of Rockefeller Center. Rooms will showcase contemporary reinterpretations of Art Deco style, balancing clean architectural lines with softened curves, layered materials, and a refined palette. Warm neutral colors, natural materials, and subtle architectural details will invoke calm while elegant persimmon tones inspired by the curtains of nearby Radio City Music Hall will add depth and a dash of theatricality.
